NASA Airport Safety Digital Twin

Cignus Consulting is under contract with NASA to design and develop a prototype Airport Digital Twin platform with a primary focus on operational safety and risk management. This initiative is part of NASA's broader research into next-generation aviation systems, with the goal of demonstrating how digital twin technologies can integrate diverse airport data, model complex operations, and provide predictive safety insights.
The project combines cloud-native architectures, AI/ML-driven analytics, and immersive visualization technologies to create a real-time decision-support environment for airports. By collaborating directly with airport operators, regulators, and air traffic stakeholders, Cignus is advancing a platform that not only addresses immediate safety concerns but also establishes a scalable foundation for future adoption across airports of varying sizes and complexities.
Key technical contributions include developing a digital twin architecture and data integration platform on AWS that uses advanced AI and ML algorithms for safety risk analysis, alerting, and prediction. The team is also developing advanced aircraft conformance monitoring tools including ATC/Pilot voice processing using Natural Language Processing (NLP), and a 3D immersive visualization engine using Cesium to provide operational views, integrated dashboard monitoring, and interaction capabilities.
