Boeing CAS - Systems Engineering, Development & IT Support

Cignus provided Systems Engineering, Development and IT Support to a newly formed airline flight efficiency focused business unit within Boeing Commercial Aviation Services (CAS) in developing tools and applications for airlines and aircraft operators to improve aircraft efficiency inflight.

Cignus led the design and development of the system infrastructure and the subsequent migration of the application architecture into Boeing's private cloud infrastructure. Cignus also led the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) architecture definition and worked with network and application security specialists to ensure that cloud computing policies and standards were considered.

Cignus managed the distribution, archiving, and processing of air traffic data feeds used for real-time and post-analysis applications -- including the FAA Aircraft Situation Display to Industry (ASDI) data feed and data from the Host ATC Data Distribution System (HADDS), which covered all air traffic information for flights over the continental US (more than 60,000 daily). This included managing real-time distribution and storage across multiple cloud-based secure zones, with custom applications developed to mediate message formats and correlate messages by flight number, which were received asynchronously and non-sequentially.

Cignus also developed custom data mining and analytics applications that detected patterns in airline flight planning, routings, and other air traffic information across a dataset of more than four years of data. The program received Boeing's CAS Group Achievement Award for the commercialization of the Direct-To AES product.
