ACRP Synthesis 98 - Simulation Options for Airport Planning
Transportation Research Board (ACRP)
Cignus served as the lead research organization for ACRP Synthesis 98: "Simulation Options for Airport Planning," published by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies in 2019. This comprehensive synthesis addressed a critical gap by providing airport planners with structured guidance for selecting and applying simulation tools across airspace, airfield, terminal, and ground-access operations.
Key elements included an industry-wide survey capturing simulation practices and capability gaps, development of a simulation tool selection framework, comprehensive tool categorization and analysis, case study documentation, and quality assurance guidelines including calibration, validation, and statistical analysis standards.
Outcomes
- Published ACRP Synthesis 98 by Transportation Research Board
- Simulation tool selection framework for airport planners
- Industry-wide survey of simulation practices across hub airports
- QA/QC methodology standards for simulation study execution
